Welcome to The Cat Help Charitable Trust official web site. We became a Charitable Trust
(CC45805) in December 2010 and have been granted donor status so all donations to
Cat Help are eligible for a portion to be claimed back through the IRD.
The Cat Help Charitable Trust is made up of a small group of volunteers committed
to the welfare of unwanted, stray, abandoned and feral cats and kittens in Christchurch,
New Zealand, and surrounding areas. We were granted Charitable Trust status on the
2nd December 2010.
Funding is through donations, rehoming fees and our own fundraising which goes towards
meeting vet bills and food. Our fundraising includes holding garage sales and having
a stall at the Brighton Market. We always welcome donations of items for the above
and we are happy to collect items from you.
Cats and kittens awaiting homes are fostered by volunteers, but we do not have a
sanctuary. If you are interested in viewing any of our cats or kittens, or if you
would like to make a donation to meet the costs of looking after these cats, please
contact us - we would love to hear from you.
To trap, treat and rehome (where possible) feral/abandoned cats/kittens.

19 January 2017
It has been a hectic few months with organising the calendar and then kitten season so haven't had much time to update our news. We hope you all had a good New Year and got a chance to have some sort of break.
12 September 2016
A happy ending - microchips are a life line. After getting a phone call about a friendly stray puss, we picked puss up. As we have microchip scanners, we scanned puss and, thankfully, he was microchipped. Puss had been missing since January 2016 just before the owners moved from the area he was found in. Phone call and email later, we reunited puss with his excited and happy family. Smiles all around. Please microchip your puss and keep your information updated.

We at Cat Help believe that the planet has sped up as we have no idea where all the time has gone and can't remember even living some months :) On the cat front rehoming has slowed down because of the nature of the kittens/teens/cats we now have as they missed out on being around humans and need to learn to trust again. It is so rewarding seeing the little changes that they make, to hear them purr and feel relaxed enough to play
14 May 2016
It has been a busy time with one of our trustees who fosters shifting house. The cattery we built, that survived over 10,000 earthquakes without any damage, took a wee bit to dismantle (one of us love nails). Thanks to those who had the patience and perseverance to get it down :) We have now got a new cattery at her new home that was only possible with the generosity of Veronica and those donors who gave via At The Vets and the Give A Little page that they set up. A great big heartfelt thanks to everyone - without your help we would still be at the planning stage!
20 January 2016
Thank you to everyone who bought a calendar. They have now sold out. We really appreciate your on-going support with our main fundraiser.
24 December 2015
Just to say a heartfelt thanks to all those who have supported Cat Help this year whether it be as volunteers, donors of food, time, or money, or wonderful vet staff. And lets not forget those who have opened their homes and hearts by giving our rescued cats and kittens a loving place to be. We wish you all a fun filled and safe festive season.
2 November 2015
Calendars are selling well - make sure you contact us if you want to get one! They are only $20 and they have beautiful pictures of cats and kittens that have come through Cat Help in the last year.
26 September 2015
We have our first litter of kittens. Mum came to us very pregnant and gave birth at Cat Help. It is nice to have a slower start to kitten season :) Our 2016 Calendar is at the printers so you will be able to purchase your own calendar shortly for just $20.00. All the cats pictured have come through Cat Help
18 July 2015
Even though it is not kitten season we are still busy with stray and abandoned adults and teens. On the positive side we are finding homes for them and we are gearing up for our 2016 calendar. If you have one of our rehomed pussy cats/kittens and you would like to submit a picture for the calendar just let us know. Not all cats can make it but every story is cherished.
18 July 2015
We want to thank Craig from Furtography and the author of Quake Cats for his wonderful donation. He chose us as one of the charities which got a percentage of the profits from the sale of his book. Our heartfelt thanks Craig!
22 March 2015
Things are a bit quiet at the moment due to a major illness with one of our trustees. Things will be back to normal soon so just watch this space.
12 January 2015
A very big thank you to Rachel and her team at Whitcoulls. They donated $5 for every copy of Quake Cats sold between October and Christmas Eve which came to a whopping $9445.00. And thank you to everyone who bought their copy at Whitcoulls - you have helped make our lives a bit easier over the next few months with this wonderful donation.
26 October 2014
Kitten season has started and we have a momma with her three bubs. Their eyes have opened and they have taken their first steps, even if they were a bit shaky :) Quake Cats is out and we have oohed and aahed our way through the book. If you would like to get your own copy, head along to your local Whitcoulls store because they are supporting us via the book sales - thank you, Rachel and Whitcoulls, you are fantastic!
1 October 2014
The kitten season is a bit slow starting this year and that is a bit of a mixed blessing. We currently don't have any kittens but we have a number of people wanting them. Just let us know if you are interested and we will contact you once we have some for rehoming. Our calendar is at the printers so won't be long now until they will be available for purchase - just $20 :)
13 September 2014
Kittens are starting to arrive but not full on as yet. Working with Clarity Press again to print our Calendar as the pictures have been picked. The calendars should be available from mid October so watch this space. Great news - Quake Cats is being launched in October 2014 and we have been picked as one of the charities.
23 August 2014
We know kitten season is just around the corner but currently we are busy with young and more mature adult cats. Our frustration continues with people who do not desex their pets and then want us to help out when they end up with kittens. Please people get your male and female cats desexed so we can be redundant and have more time to spend with our own pets :) It is nearly calendar time again so for those people who have taken one of our rescued cats or kittens, get those photos into us now!
4 August 2014
Things have finally started to quiet down with most of the teens now rehomed. We still have some adults available if you are interested in having a loving rescued cat as part of your family.
19 June 2014
The year is racing by and we seem to be continually busy. Kitten season appears to be finally over but we still have some teens to home as well as a few adults.
20 April 2014
Congratulations to Will V and Jo M who won 1st and 2nd prize in our Easter Raffle. It is always pleasing to hear that the winners had not won anything before and were so excited when we contacted them. Otherwise, we continue to be very busy with cats, teenagers and kittens. It has definitely been a very busy year so far with no sign of it letting up
1 January 2014
It has been a busy couple of months with kitten season upon us. Our calendars are all sold - thanks to everyone who has bought one. And a special thanks to Julie in Rosters Office at Hillmorten for selecting Cat Help as her charity fundraiser this Christmas :)
4 November 2013
The Calendars have arrived today so it is all quite exciting. They look absolutely fantastic and if you want one just let us know and we will arrange the best way to get it to you :)
17 October 2013
We have just taken the proof of this year's calendar to the printer and we think it is the best one yet. They will be back from the Printers at the end of October so if you want to book your copy at just $20 just let us know. This is our major fundraiser for the year with all profits going to the vets to help with other rescued cats and kittens.
11 October 2013
Alert Alert We have had our first rescued pregnant mum give birth and the 5 kittens are now 5 days old. Sadly, if patterns continue, this will be the tip of the iceberg.
24 July 2013
Remain busy and full of cats, young and old. Not all are pictured on our page yet but we do have a range of 'teenagers' and adults. Sadly getting to know Christchurch intimately as we respond to calls about cats that have been abandoned but, sadly, seldom just lost.
28 March 2013
Our Easter Raffle was well supported again. Thank you folks for buying the tickets. First prize went to Pamela (number 19) who saw it as a sign to buy Lotto. Second prize went to Adonia and Karl (number 177). The raffle was drawn by Vet Staff Sandi at Avonside Wainoni and all proceeds went to our vets.
Fundraising has slowed due to the less rehoming so any donation is lovingly accepted. All our donations go towards vet bills so if you would like to help either contact us via this web page or give us a call. We provide receipts and we do have IRD donor status :)
28 March 2013
The year is flying by and we remain busy. Sadly, the flow of abandoned and relinquished cats hasn't stopped with landlords in Christchurch not allowing pets a factor, despite loving and responsible owners out there. The flow on is that rehoming has slowed down. The good news is that we still have some lovely friendly kittens/teens and cats ready to brighten up someone's life :)
17 January 2013
It is hard to believe that it is three months since we last updated our news. Kitten season then Christmas has kept us all very busy. It seems to be never ending at the moment with abandoned cats and kittens. We still have some calendars available - just drop us an email if your are interested in getting one.
11 October 2012
Ten bubbas all under 10 days and the three mums are now with us at Cat Help. We also now have the 2013 calendars for sale. $20 each - just contact if you would like one. All the profits go towards vet bills.
Sadly still busy with abandoned pusses in earthquake ravished areas.
12 September 2012
Good news. The four kittens have been spoken for even though they are not ready to go for another week. And we got the mum. Yah she is beautiful though starved. Keep an eye out in the coming months as Madonna will need a home :)
31 August 2012
It is that time again. We have our first litter of kittens - four week old bundles of joy. Busy with our calendar for 2013 so watch this space as it is off to the printers soon. Sadly, stray and abandoned cats still take up the majority of our calls. Microchipping has proved its value again - Smudge the Persian who went missing after the February earthquake was reunited yesterday with her very happy owners. Please, if caring for a stray, get puss scanned for a microchip as Smudge could have been home earlier.
12 August 2012
Sadly, abandoned and stray cats abound. As we rehome 1 adult there is another 1 waiting to come in. That is how busy it is. Sometimes it feels like putting water in a bucket with a hole in it.
26 May 2012
We still have kittens, teenagers and adult cats for rehoming so if you are wanting a furry friend, see us.
Also, if you are searching for us we are only on the Charities Commission website as the law changed and that is where we have to register now. Those organisations registered as Charitable Trusts prior to 2005 are on both Charities Commission and Charitable Trust websites.
